How GPA is calculated

Each letter grade has a point value. Multiply the points by the class’s credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credits. This tool uses the common U.S. 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0 and so on down to F = 0. Many schools count A+ as 4.0; some use 4.3.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 3.5 GPA in letter grades?

About halfway between B+ (3.3) and A− (3.7).

How can I raise my cumulative GPA?

Classes with more credit hours move it more. The more credits you already have, the smaller each new semester’s effect.
